Cat. #00021: DOROTHY ADAMS

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Scarce vintage signature in violet felt-tip pen on a 3x5-inch pale yellow card, acquired in-person by an inveterate collector in her final years. In very good condition and ideal for mating. Whenever Ellen Corby or Mary Field weren't available to play a timid, spinsterish film role, chances are the part would go to Dorothy Adams. Though far from a shrinking violet in real life, the familiar-faced character actress excelled at portraying repressed, intensely loyal servants and maiden aunts. She was a veritable scene-stealer in The Women (1939), On Borrowed Time (1939), Ninotchka (1939), Back Street (1941), Penny Serenade (1941), the Boris Karloff horror flick The Devil Commands (1941), So Proudly We Hail! (1943), Since You Went Away (1944), Laura (1944), The Best Years of Our Lives (1946), He Walked by Night (1948), Samson and Delilah (1949), The Greatest Show on Earth (1952), The Killing (1956), The Ten Commandments (1956), An Affair to Remember (1957), and The Big Country (1958). She also popped up on countless episodes of various T.V. dramas, sitcoms and westerns, including "The Adventures of Kit Carson" (1952-1953), "Gunsmoke" (1956-1957), "Perry Mason" (1957-1960), "Leave It to Beaver" (1958), "Wagon Train" (1958-1963), "The Twilight Zone" (1961), and "Bonanza" (1962).
