Rather uncommon vintage 8x10-inch black and white publicity portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in blue fine-tip pen in the late 1970s or early 1980s.  In very good condition.  The beloved actor, producer, and Grammy Award-winning Southern gospel musician first gained prominence on the big screen, in Elia Kazan's A Face in the Crowd (1957) and Mervyn LeRoy's No Time for Sergeants (1958).  However, he found his true niche on television beginning in the following decade, as Sheriff Andy Taylor on "The Andy Griffith Show" (1960-1968) and the titular defense attorney on the legal drama "Matlock" (1986-1995).
