Vintage 8x10-inch black and white portrait from Gaumont British Pictures Corporation, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen in the 1930s. In fine condition, with very mild border soiling. English-born actor, author, playwright, and filmmaker George Arliss was the first Brit to win an Academy Award, for 1929's Disraeli, and was nominated for a second Oscar the following year, for The Green Goddess. He was elsewhere memorable in Alexander Hamilton (1931), The Man Who Played God (1932), The Iron Duke (1934), The House of Rothschild (1934), Cardinal Richelieu (1935), and East Meets West (1936).
