Cat. #000673: ARTHUR BYRON

Rare vintage 8x10-inch black and white casual portrait, shown at home with his wife, Kathryn, boldly signed and inscribed for personal friends in black fountain pen in 1937. In good condition for its age, with gentle edge wear. Veteran Broadway character actor Arthur Byron came to Hollywood at the dawn of the talkie era, typically cast as high-ranking politicos and business executives, sometimes concealing dark and self-serving intentions. Best remembered by horror, sci-fi and fantasy buffs for his starring role as Sir Joseph Whemple in Karl Freund's The Mummy (1932), he was also noteworthy in 20,000 Years in Sing Sing (1932), The President Vanishes (1934), Stand Up and Cheer (1934), and Prisoner of Shark Island (1936).
