Cat. #001511202112: RITA HAYWORTH

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Fantastic, iconic vintage 8x10-inch black and white restrike portrait for Gilda (1946), boldly signed with her name alone in black felt-tip pen in the 1980s and beautifully matted and framed in grey and black. We have never examined the piece outside of the framing and understand it to not be trimmed. In good condition and magnificent for display. After appearing, billed as Rita Cansino, in Under the Pampas Moon (1935), the horror flick Charlie Chan in Egypt (1935), Dante's Inferno (1935), Meet Nero Wolfe (1935), Rebellion (1936), and Old Louisiana (1937), the young actress and dancer was noticed by Columbia Pictures studio head Harry Cohn, who gave her a makeover and changed her surname to Hayworth.  She was thereafter the iconic embodiment of electrifying sexuality we all know and love, unforgettable in You'll Never Get Rich (1941) and You Were Never Lovelier (1942), opposite Fred Astaire; My Gal Sal (1942); Tales of Manhattan (1942); Cover Girl (1942); Gilda (1946); Down to Earth (1947); The Lady from Shanghai (1947); The Loves of Carmen (1948); Affair in Trinidad (1952); Salome (1953); Miss Sadie Thompson (1953); Pal Joey (1957); and Separate Tables (1958).  She died of Alzheimer's Disease in 1987, aged only 68.
