Exceedingly rare vintage 9.4 x 11.8 double-weight glossy black and white bust portrait, signed and inscribed in Italian in blue ballpoint ink, “A Mauro / Fuggetta /con tante / sympatie /Anna Magnani” and dated July of 1964. The photograph has likely been trimmed from a slightly larger size, but is otherwise in very fine condition, and is the only oversize example of an already very rare autograph we have ever encountered. Tempestuous Italian leading actress Anna Magnani earned an Oscar for The Rose Tattoo (1955) and was nominated a second time, for Wild Is the Wind (1957). Not long after an unforgettable turn in the hilarious The Secret of Santa Vittoria (1962), she died of pancreatic cancer, aged only 62. Not much of a signer during her lifetime, her autograph is elusive in any format.
