Cat. #001663112: DAVID MANNERS

Uncommonly early 8x10-inch sepia-tone portrait for 1934's Luck of a Sailor, alternatively titled Contraband, boldly signed in black fountain pen in the period of that film, a few years after his appearance in Dracula (1931). Almost all autographed photographs one finds of the actor date to his later years. In good condition. David Manners, handsome, well-spoken leading man of the 1930s, portrayed Jonathan Harker in Dracula (1931), opposite Bela Lugosi; Franklyn Drew in Death Kiss (1932), also with Lugosi; Frank Whemple in The Mummy, with Boris Karloff; Peter Alison in The Black Cat (1934), alongside both Lugosi and Karloff; and the nephew of a crazed opium addict in Mystery of Edwin Drood (1935), with Claude Rains.
