Cat. #0003452: ROSS ALEXANDER

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Highly rare vintage 5x7-inch sepia-tone portrait, boldly signed in black fountain pen in December of 1936, just weeks before his death. In fine condition, with a small bend in the left border and a tiny area of surface paper loss above his right ear. Supporting actor Ross Alexander was memorable in a mixed bag of A- and B-level films of the 1930s, including The Wiser Sex (1932), Flirtation Walk (1934), Maybe It's Love (1935), A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935), Captain Blood (1935), and Here Comes Carter (1936). In 1937, rumors began to circulate about his clandestine gay lifestyle during three marriages to women, and, fearing the decimation of his career, he committed suicide by shotgun. He was just 29 years old.
