Rare vintage blue felt-tip pen signature on a tan 3x5-inch card, attained in the late 1960s or early 1970s. In good condition, with some light toning and a typed notation along the bottom edge, and excellent for matting with a favorite photograph. Important, though underrated, film director and editor Hal Ashby snagged an Oscar for In the Heat of the Night in 1967, and was nominated for The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming (1966) and Coming Home (1978).  In addition to The Last Detail (1973), Bound for Glory (1976) and Being There (1979), he is fondly remembered for the cult classic Harold and Maude (1971), in which he also had a small cameo as a carnival hippie, wearing his ever-present aviator glasses. He died of cancer at the age of 59 and, having been somewhat private throughout his brief life, his autograph is quite difficult to acquire in any format.
