Two-time Oscar-nominated silent and early talkie leading man Richard Barthelmess is remembered for outstanding performances in films like D.W. Griffith's Broken Blossoms (1919) and Way Down East (1920), both opposite Lillian Gish; Tol'able David (1921); The Patent Leather Kid (1927); The Noose (1928); and Howard Hawks' Only Angels Have Wings (1939).
