In good condition for its age. Heavyset Black character actress Louise Beavers, who was discovered while working as Leatrice Joy's maid, played stereotypical servant roles in films like Uncle Tom's Cabin (1927), Coquette (1929), Good Sport (1931), She Done Him Wrong (1933), Bombshell (1933), Make Way for Tomorrow (1937), Made for Each Other (1939), Holiday Inn (1942), Mr. Blandings Builds Him Dream House (1948), and The Jackie Robinson Story (1950). In 1934, she was given one chance at stardom and absolutely stole the show, in Fannie Hurst's classic soaper Imitation of Life. When she was not nominated for an Oscar for the role, activists and the press viewed it as a racist snub. Just five years later, Hattie McDaniel would win for Gone with the Wind (1939). With the advent of television, she was memorable in the title role on "Beulah" (1950). She died of a heart attack at the age of 60.
