Cat. #0005022022: SPENCER GORDON BENNET

Exceedingly rare 1969 two-page letter on roughly 5x7-inch tan stationery to western film author Bud Perkins, with fascinating movie-related content, boldly signed in blue ballpoint pen. In good condition, unaccompanied by its original transmittal envelope. Film director and producer Spencer Gordon Bennet was dubbed the "King of the Serial Directors," having helmed the creation of more cliffhanger pictures and B-movies than anyone in Hollywood history, at over a hundred. These included The Masked Marvel (1943); G-Men vs. the Black Dragon (1943) and Secret Service in Darkest Africa (1943) with Rod Cameron as agent Rex Bennett; The Tiger Woman (1944); Zorro's Black Whip (1944); The Purple Monster Strikes (1948); Superman (1948) and Atom Man vs. Superman (1950) with Kirk Alyn as the titular Man of Steel; Batman and Robin (1949); The Adventures of Sir Galahad (1949); and Captain Video: Master of the Stratosphere (1951). He also directed numerous Jungle Jim flicks with Johnny Weissmueller and Red Ryder films with Wild Bill Elliott and Allan Lane. A bit of trivia: Bennet's gravestone had his gravestone engraved, "His Final Chapter."
