Matronly, English-butchering Hungarian-born Ferike Boros was one of the most memorable character actresses in classic Hollywood, playing no-nonsense ethnic mamas and grandmothers in films like Little Caesar (1931), Black Fury (1935), Make Way for Tomorrow (1937), The Light That Failed (1939), Three Cheers for the Irish (1940), Lillian Russell (1940), The Talk of the Town (1942), They Got Me Covered (1943), A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (1945), and East Side, West Side (1949).
