Cat. #0008442: BEN CARTER & MANTAN MORELAND

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Extremely rare set of individual fountain pen signatures on a roughly 3x4-inch slip of white paper, acquired in-person at Chicago's Dearborn Station in 1945 and affixed to a 4x6-inch tan album page. In good condition, with some toning and crinkling due to the glue beneath the autographs. African-Americans Ben "Shadrach" Carter and Mantan Moreland were one of the all-time great vaudeville comedy teams. Both entered films in the 1930s, playing bug-eyed, wiry-haired porters, elevator men and chauffeurs. Carter died at the age of 35 and his autograph is virtually impossible to find in any format.
