Surprisingly scarce and just great portrait as the villainous Sombra in Republic's The Black Widow (1947), boldly signed in black felt-tip marker in her later years. In good condition. Raven-haired Carol Forman had the looks and talent for topnotch roles, but seemed to prefer playing exotic villainesses in B-movies and cliffhangers. While the cinematic female arch-nemeses who had preceded her were chiefly of the regal, imperious type, Forman instead employed her considerable pulchritude to bamboozle the poor saps who sought to curtail her nefarious plans to dominate the world, swindle atomic secrets or have adversaries permanently silenced. In addition to Widow, she was at her best as Sonia Cabot in the horror-themed Charlie Chan and the Feathered Serpent (1948), the Spider Lady in the Superman serial of 1948, Nila in Federal Agents vs. Underworld, Inc. (1949), and Laska in the chapter play Blackhawk: Fearless Champion of Freedom (1952). Save for one or two bit parts on television, she had all but vanished from the screen by 1953 and this is just the fifth example of her autograph we've encountered to date.
