Cat. #0011646121: DOROTHY DANDRIDGE

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Highly rare vintage signature in blue ballpoint pen on an irregularly-trimmed slip, acquired in-person by inveterate collector Janet Bruce in the 1960s and affixed to a 3x5-inch off-white card alongside a small image of the star. In good condition. Gorgeous singer and film star Dorothy Dandridge was the first African-American to be nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award, for Carmen Jones in 1954. Five years later, she earned further accolades for her title role in the film adaptation of George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess (1959). Dandridge committed suicide by an overdose of antidepressants at age 42 and her autograph is elusive in any format.
