Cat. #0013563: STEPIN FETCHIT

Highly rare and quite nifty vintage 8x10-inch black and white portrait from his Hollywood heyday, boldly signed and inscribed in red ballpoint pen in 1980, in the shaky hand of his older years. In good condition, wit a light crease to the upper left-hand area, not touching the autograph itself. Comic Black character actor Stepin Fetchit was unfortunately squandered on stereotyped roles, such as lazy, inarticulate valets, train conductors, porters, and other servant types, drawing criticism in later years for possibly promoting outrageoys depictions of African-Americans. His many memorable film credits include In Old Kentucky (1927), Show Boat (1929), The Galloping Ghost (1931), Stand Up and Cheer! (1934), Charlie Chan in Egypt (1935), Dimples (1936), Big Timers (1945), Bend of the River (1952), and The Sun Shines Bright (1953).
