Ultra-rare vintage black fountain pen signature of the tragic, troubled, smoky-voiced jazz icon on a 4.25 x 5.25-inch cream-colored album page, acquired in-person in the 1930s or 1940s by an autograph hound named Ethel. A square-shaped block of toning to the upper right-hand corner, left by a magazine image affixed to the prior page in the book; a fleck of soiling in the upper area, away from the writing; and a few surface scratches and crinkles, none of which are much importance, given the extreme scarcity of the piece.
