Cat. #00154323: SIDNEY HOWARD

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Ultra-rare two-page 1928 contract with Samuel Goldwyn, Inc., agreeing to write Condemned to Devil Island, released in 1929 as Condemned to Live, boldly signed in black fountain pen at the bottom of the second page, alongside the signature of a studio executive.  In good condition, with some edge wear and a paperclip stain to the upper edge.  Oscar-winning screenwriter Sidney Howard was the chief writer for Gone with the Wind (1939), but never saw a single reel of the completed film, having been run over by a tractor on his private Massachusetts farm in 1939, at the age of 48. He is also remembered for his scripts for Bulldog Drummond (1929), Arrowsmith (1931), Dodsworth (1936), and The Prisoner of Zenda (1937).
