Cat. #001563111: BRANDON HURST

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Extremely rare vintage signature in heavy pencil on the verso of an 8x10-inch Freulich costume portrait as Jehan in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923), with notations by the original owner above and below the autograph. In good condition, with some tape remnants in the upper right-hand corner of the verso and some toning in spots. This is one of only a small handful of signatures we have ever encountered on the star. Mesmerizing Brandon Hurst, English-born character actor of the stage and screen, excelled at playing cruel and scheming authority figures. He made a number of important contributions to the horror, sci-fi and fantasy film genres, with roles in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1920) with John Barrymore, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923) with Lon Chaney, The Man Who Laughs (1928) with Conrad Veidt, Murders in the Rue Morgue (1932) and White Zombie (1932) with Bela Lugosi, and House of Frankenstein (1944) with Lon Chaney, Jr.
