Cat. #00158262: PEGGY HOPKINS JOYCE

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Highly rare vintage inscribed blue ballpoint pen signature on a 3x5-inch tan card, acquired by inveterate collector Frank Flack in the 1950s, not long before her early death from alcoholism. In good condition, with gentle toning. Note that the image of the star shown here alongside the scan of the autograph is not included. Gorgeous artist's model and film actress Peggy Hopkins Joyce was a witty, stylish adventuress who, having gained notoriety for her self-serving marriages to millionaires, once quipped, "I may be expensive, but I delivered the goods." She caused a sensation by dancing nude in Earl Carroll's Vanities" in 1923; was memorialized in song lyrics by Cole Porter and Lorenz Hart; counted Charlie Chaplin and Irving Thalberg among her lovers; once owned the Portugese diamond now held by the Smithsonian; and was the inspiration for Lorelei Lee in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes."
