Gorgeous artist's model and film actress Peggy Hopkins Joyce was a witty, stylish adventuress who, having gained notoriety for her self-serving marriages to millionaires, once quipped, "I may be expensive, but I delivered the goods." She caused a sensation by dancing nude in Earl Carroll's Vanities" in 1923; was memorialized in song lyrics by Cole Porter and Lorenz Hart; counted Charlie Chaplin and Irving Thalberg among her lovers; once owned the Portugese diamond now held by the Smithsonian; and was the inspiration for Lorelei Lee in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes."
