Scarce and beautiful vintage 7.5 x 9.5-inch sepia-tone portrait by Hal Phyfe, boldly signed and inscribed in brown fountain pen in the late 1920s. In good condition, with very slight trimming for framing purposes. Wildly popular torch singer Helen Morgan created the role of Julie in the first and second Broadway productions of "Show Boat" (1927, 1932), which she later reprised in the acclaimed film version of 1936. She died of cirrhosis of the liver at age 41 and her autograph is rather elusive in any format.
