Scarce vintage black fountain pen signature on the verso of a roughly 4.5 x 6.5-inch black and white publicity portrait by Autrey, dating to the early 1930s. In fine condition for its age, with some chipping to the image around the edges and light surface wear. Prior to his tragic death of a heart attack at the age of 51, boyishly handsome Argentine-born silent and early talkie film star Barry Norton played Reginald Van Lear in The Wizard (1927) and Juan Harker in the Spanish-language version of the horror classic Dracula (1931), opposite Lopita Tovar. He also had small roles in Zombies on Broadway (1945), The Strange Door (1951) and The She-Creature (1956). His work in other genres included A Man About Town (1927), Sunrise (1927), Dishonered (1931), Lady for a Day (1933), Imitation of Life (1934), Anna Karenina (1935), The Razor's Edge (1946), The Big Clock (1948), Strangers on a Train (1951), What Price Glory (1952), The Caine Mutiny (1954), A Star Is Born (1954), There's No Business Like Show Business (1954), Ain't Misbehavin' (1955), To Catch a Thief (1955), Around the World in Eighty Days (1956) and Written on the Wind (1956). This is just one of four autographs of the actor we have ever encountered.
