Cat. #0019947: MOLLY PICON

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Uncommonly early 8x10-inch sepia-tone portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen in 1936. In good condition. Dubbed The Jewish Charlie Chaplin, quintessential "yente" Molly Picon spent seven decades popularizing Yiddish culture and comedy in every entertainment medium.  At the onset of her film career, she was memorable as Yidl with His Fiddle (1936) and Mamele (1938) and, in her older years, she specialized in playing well-meaning, but overbearing ethnic matrons, as in Come Blow Your Horn (1963) and Fiddler on the Roof (1971).
