Rare vintage blue fountain pen signature on an irregularly trimmed 3.25 x 5.5-inch portion of a tan autograph album page, acquired in-person in the 1940s. In fine condition, with some light creasing throughout, and accompanied by a small computer-printed image of the star. Great Irish actor Noel Purcell graced many a film and television program with variations of his staple character-- a bearded, boozy son of the Auld Sod. Stage-trained in the classics in Dublin, he moved into films in 1934. His days of prominence, which lasted until the 1970s, began with 1947's Captain Boycott, and peeked with his performance as the elderly salt whose death marooned the lovers-to-be in The Blue Lagoon (1948). He was memorable as William McCoy in Mutiny on the Bounty (1962); dominant among Captain Ahab's crew in Moby Dick (1956); and highly visible as a gamekeeper in The List of Adrian Messenger (1963). One of Purcell's best-remembered appearances of the 1960s was as the taciturn Irish in-law in a 1963 episode of TV's "The Danny Thomas Show."
