Cat. #00312413: MAXIE ROSENBLOOM

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Rather uncommon vintage pencil signature on a 4x5-inch light blue autograph album page, acquired in-person in 1935. In good condition, with two minor flecks of soiling. A small computer-printed image of the star is included. 5'11", 170-pound boxer-turned-character actor Maxie "Slapsie" Rosenbloom played Runyonesque thugs and pugs in films like Nothing Sacred (1937), The Kid Comes Back (1938), The Amazing Dr. Clitterhouse (1938), Mr. Moto's Gamble (1938), Each Dawn I Die (1939), Irish Eyes Are Smiling (1944), and Abbott and Costello Meet the Keystone Cops (1955).  After a run as Big Jule in Broadway's 1961 revival of "Guys and Dolls", his health rapidly deteriorated, partly owing to dementia pugilistica, the result of far too many blows to the head while boxing.
