Cat. #003201112: HAROLD RUSSELL

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Bold inscribed ballpoint pen signature on a 3x5-inch white card, dating to the 1980s.  In very good condition, with a few stray ink marks, clearly made while struggling to sign the card with a mechanical arm.  In 1944, paratrooper Harold Russell lost both his hands while training soldiers in the use of dynamite at Camp MacKall, thereafter forced to use hooks for all manual activities.  In 1946, he was featured by William Wyler in The Best Years of Our Lives, and proved so moving in the role that he received two Academy Awards:  A Best Supporting trophy and a special Oscar for serving as an inspiration to all returning veterans.  He is the only actor to receive two Academy Awards for the same role.
