Veteran character actor Rolfe Sedan first came to prominence in Hal Roach comedies, lending support to Laurel and Hardy, and Harold Lloyd.  He was elsewhere memorable in small roles in classic films like The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923) and The Phantom of the Opera (1925) with Lon Chaney; Flesh and the Devil (1926); The Iron Mask (1929); 42nd Street (1933); The Little Giant (1933); The Thin Man (1933); Kid Millions (1934); Charlie Chan in Paris (1934); Charlie Chan in Paris (1935); the horror gem Mad Love (1935); the Marx Brothers' A Night at the Opera (1935); A Tale of Two Cities (1935); Topper Takes a Trip (1938); The Wizard of Oz (1939), as the Oz balloon ascentionist; Ninotchka (1939); Charlie Chan in City of Darkness (1939); The Mad Empress (1939); and, after lots of television work, Young Frankenstein (1974). And who could forget Sedan as horrified mailman Mr. Briggs on "The Addams Family" (1964-1966), his eyes bugging out every time Thing snatched the letters out of his hand?
