No-nonsense Rod Steiger was Oscar-nominated for On the Waterfront (1954) and The Pawnbroker (1964), and won for In the Heat of the Night (1967). He was elsewhere memorable in Oklahoma! (1955), Al Capone (1959), The Longest Day (1962), Dr. Zhivago (1955), Jesus of Nazareth (1977), The Amityville Horror (1979), American Gothic (1988), and Mars Attacks! (1996).
