Highly rare vintage fountain pen signature on a 3x4-inch tan card, acquired in Vienna in May of 1934. In good condition and ideal for matting. Note that the image of the star shown alongside the autograph here is not actually included. Ludwig Stossel, a popular stage and film star in his native Austria, noteworthy in Fritz Lang's The Testament of Dr. Mabuse (1933), fled to Hollywood following the rise of the Nazis in the 1930s. There, making use of his dense accent, balding head and benevolent countenance, he found new work playing foreign characters, often sporting monocles and handlebar mustaches, in classic films Four Sons (1940); Underground (1942);  Casablanca (1942); King's Row (1942); The Pride of the Yankees (1942); Hitler's Madman (1943); The Climax (1944) with Boris Karloff; House of Dracula (1945), in which he gets bitten by John Carradine as the Count; Dillinger (1945); Cloak and Dagger (1946); The Beginning or the End (1947); A Song Is Born (1948); The Great Sinner (1949); and From the Earth to the Moon (1958).
