Cat. #0054821101: THEODORE VON ELTZ

Scarce vintage inscribed pencil signature on a 4x6-inch pale green autograph album page from the personal collection of child star Jane Withers, acquired in-person in October of 1937. Fraying to the left edge, where the leaf was torn from its original book, and a newspaper date header affixed to the bottom edge; otherwise, in good condition. Dashing silent leading man Theodore von Eltz found new work in character roles in the sound era, playing dastardly villains and vexatious authority figures in films like The Arizona Kid (1930), Red Haired Alibi (1932), Bright Eyes (1934), The Sun Never Sets (1939), and The Big Sleep (1946).  Extremely versatile, he also played scores of benevolent doctors, lawyers and servants in nearly 200 other films.  He is remembered by horror fans for his role as Harry Blythe in Rupert Julian's The Cat Creeps (1930).
