Eminent jazz, blues and gospel singer Ethel Waters made a number of noteworthy forays into motion pictures, including Tales of Manhattan (1942), Cabin in the Sky (1943), Stage Door Canteen (1943), and Pinky (1949), for which she earned an Oscar nod. She also shined in the title role on T.V.'s "Beulah" (1950-1951).
