Fiendishly scarce 8x10-inch black and white bust portrait in-costume as the lycanthrope Andreas Obry in Return of the Vampire (1944), signed and warmly inscribed: "To Burt, / Many thanks for / your wonderful smile, / early morning coffee / and moral support. / Your Fuzzyface / Matt Willis." In good condition for its age, with some surface creases and gentle scuffing. The horror icon, who also appeared in Invisible Agent (1942) and The Mysterious Doctor (1943), retired from acting in the early 1950s to operate a small theater in his hometown of Fredericksburg, Virginia and autographed material in any format is virtually nonexistent. A similar signed portrait, also in-costume from the film and inscribed to Burt, sold at auction in 2009 for nearly $6,500.00. The two almost certainly come from the same source.
