Cat. #000341: ROBERT ALDA

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Uncommon signature in blue felt-tip marker on a 3.5 x 6-inch 1967 first day of issue postal stationery card.  In very good condition.  The handsome leading man, whose sons, Alan and Anthony Alda, perhaps fared better on the big screen, made an auspicious debut as doomed composer George Gershwin in Rhapsody in Blue (1945).  He went on to play tough guy roles in films like Cinderella Jones (1946), Cloak and Dagger (1946), the horror gem The Beast with Five Fingers (1946), Nora Prentiss (1947), Tarzan and the Slave Girl (1950), Imitation of Life (1959), Cleopatra's Daughter (1960), Revenge of the Barbarians (1960), The Devil's Hand (1962), The Girl Who Knew Too Much (1969), and Lisa and the Devil (1972).  In 1950, he snagged a Tony for his starring role as Sky Masterson in the Broadway classic "Guys an Dolls".
