From a massive horde of in-person autographs, amassed by a busy New York City-based collector from the 1960s through the 1980s, comes this rare black fountain pen signature on a 3x5-inch white card. In good condition with a minor scuff along the upper edge, and nice for matting with a favorite photograph. With his tall figure, strong-as-an-ox build and square-jawed face, Richard "Dick" Alexander was the quintessential villain or dimwitted goon, cast so memorably as a henchman in over 40 western pictures. His over 300 silent and Golden Age film credits included work in a wide variety of other genres, with supporting roles in The King of Kings (1927), The Docks of New York (1928), The Mysterious Lady (1928), Rio Rita (1929), All Quiet on the Western Front (1930), Roman Scandals (1933), Cleopatra (1934), Babes in Toyland (1934), Annie Oakley (1935), A Tale of Two Cities (1935), Reefer Madness (1936), Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times (1936) and The Great Dictator (1940), The Story of Louis Pasteur (1936), the cliffhanger The Amazing Exploits of the Clutching Hand (1936), Think Fast, Mr. Moto (1937), S.O.S. Coast Guard (1937) with Bela Lugosi, The Adventures of Marco Polo (1938), Marie Antoinette (1938), Charlie Chan in Honolulu (1938), Tower of London (1939) with Boris Karloff, the horror classic The Ghost of Frankenstein (1942), Reap the Wild Wind (1942), Hangmen Also Die! (1943), Sherlock Holmes: The House of Fear (1945), Spook Busters (1946), and the plum role of Prince Barin, Buster Crabbe's faithful ally, in the Flash Gordon (1937) and Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars (1938) serials. This is just the fifth example of the actor's autograph we've ever encountered.
