Cat. #00043311: LESLIE BANKS

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Dapper-looking vintage 6x8-inch deckle-edge sepia-tone portrait, boldly signed in black fountain pen, circa 1934. In good condition, with a tiny fleck of white that appears to be embedded within the image and some mounting remnants on the verso. Leslie Banks, esteemed actor, director and producer of the stage and screen, excelled at playing gruff, menacing villains, capitalizing on extensive scarring to his cheek acquired in the First World War. These included the murderous Count Zaroff-- the inspiration for the real-life Zodiac Killer-- in The Most Dangerous Game (1932) and the crazed Dr. Manetta in Chamber of Horrors (1940). He was also memorable as Frederick Robbins in Maurice Elvey's early science-fiction film Transatlantic Tunnel (1935).
