Cat. #0008911: HOBART CAVANAUGH

Highly scarce vintage 5x7-inch black and white portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen in the 1930s. In good codnition. Scrawny, bespectacled character actor Hobart Cavanaugh played downtrodden, henpecked nobodies in scores of classic films of the 1930s and 1940s, with two memorable horror roles:  Professor Jasper Quigley in Horror Island (1941) and Bill Stapleton in The Spider Woman Strikes Back (1946).  He was also memorable as Dearing in the Sherlock Holmes film A Study in Scarlet (1933), opposite Reginald Owen.
