Highly scarce vintage 8x10-inch publicity portrait for Harrigan's Kid (1943), boldly signed with his name alone in blue fountain pen in the early 1940s. In good condition for its age, with a few minor handling dings. Veteran character player, director, playwright, and producer Frank Craven achieved theatrical immortality as the Stage Manager in the original 1938 Broadway production of "Our Town", which he would recreate in the film adaptation of 1940. In Hollywood, he famously penned the Laurel and Hardy comedy Sons of the Desert (1933) and, as an actor, played wry small-town wisecrackers and various men of authority in nearly 40 classic films, including State Fair (1933), Barbary Coast (1935), In This Our Life (1942), the horror favorite Son of Dracula (1943), and Destiny (1944).
