Exceedingly rare vintage 5x7-inch black and white portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen in the 1930s-- just the third autographed image of him we have ever encountered. In good condition for its age, with minor edgewear. English stage and screen actor Henry Daniell's haughty demeanor and Satanic visage made him the ideal suave, well-bred villain in scores of films of the 1930s through 1950s. He is remembered by horror and science-fiction fans for his portrayals of John Wales in The Thirteenth Chair (1937), Dr. MacFarlane in the Boris Karloff favorite The Body Snatcher (1945), Morgana in From the Earth to the Moon (1958), Dr. Zurich in The Four Skulls of Jonathan Drake (1959), and Dr. Zucco in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (1961). Daniell is also revered among Sherlock Holmes enthusiasts for his portrayal of criminal mastermind Professor Moriarty in Universal’s film series, opposite Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce.
