Cat. #00542: HILDA VAUGHN

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Highly rare vintage 8x10-inch color portrait by Maurice Seymour, boldly signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen in the 1930s. In good condition for its age and just the third we have ever offered. Scrawny, tart-tongued character actress Hilda Vaughn excelled at playing untrustworthy or generally unpleasant maids, charwomen, governesses, and salesladies in films of the 1930s through 1950s.  Before being blacklisted by the McCarthy witch hunt of the 1950s and her early death of a heart attack at the age of 59, she was unforgettable as Jean Harlow's backmailing domestic in Dinner at Eight (1933), and in classic films like Three Live Ghosts (1929), Susan Lenox (1931), The Phantom of Crestwood (1932), Anne of Green Gables (1934), The Wedding Night (1935), The Trail of the Lonesome Pine (1936), The Witness Chair (1936), Charlie Chan at the Opera (1936), Maid's Night Out (1938), and Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum (1940).
