Cat. #005501: H.B. WARNER

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Scarce and quite early 7.5 x 9.5-inch satin-finish sepia-tone portrait, stamped Triangle-Ince on the verso and signed by Witzel, boldly signed in black fountain pen in the 1910s, at the very onset of the star's career. In fine condition for its age, with minor edgewear. Veteran silent and early talkie character actor H.B. Warner is probably best remembered for his portrayal of druggist Mr. Gower in the holiday classic It's a Wonderful Life (1946). He made several other contributions to the horror, sci-fi and fantasy genres, with roles in The Ghost Breaker (1914); the crazed ape picture Stark Mad (1929); Supernatural (1933); Lost Horizon (1937), for which he was nominated for an Oscar; Topper Returns (1941); The Devil and Daniel Webster (1942); and Savage Drums (1951).
