Cat. #00555: RUTH WARRICK

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Uncommonly early inscribed blue fountain pen signature on a 4x6-inch tan album page, acquired in-person in the 1940s by an autograph hound named Dot Simpson. In fine condition, with a gentle diagonal crease traversing the writing. Reserved, aristocratic model-turned-character actress Ruth Warrick was hand-selected by Orson Welles to play his first wife, Emily Monroe Norton, in Citizen Kane (1941). She went on to appear in nearly two dozen films, mostly B-level melodramas and rugged adventures, proving equally adept at playing stoic, altruistic wives and controlling, tightly-wound neurotics. Of particular note was her performance in the classic noir Journey Into Fear in 1943. In later years, Warrick landed the plum role of the obnoxiously wealthy, viper-tongued, manipulative and meddlesome Pine Valley grande dame Phoebe Wallingford on T.V.'s "All My Children", holding court from 1970 until her death in 2005.
