Cat. #000191: JEAN ADAIR

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Ultra-rare vintage blue fountain pen signature given alongside a roughly 1.5 x 2.5-inch Players Directory biography, acquired in-person by busy autograph hounds Frances and Violet Zane in the early 1950s. A minor stain to the lower left-hand corner tip and slightly uneven trimming; otherwise, in fine condition for its age, and just the fifth example we have encountered in over 35 years. Note that the image of the star shown here alongside the scan of the signed piece is not included. A noted vaudevillian and theatrical character actress, Adair was 71 when she was invited to Hollywood to recreate her stage role as Martha Brewster, one of Cary Grant's two murderous, dotty old aunts, in Arsenic and Old Lace (1944).  She appeared in just one or two television roles before her death at 79, and her autograph is virtually nonexistent in any format.
