Ultra-scarce vintage signature in light blue fountain pen along the left-hand side of a complete playbill for a November, 1950 performance of "Bell, Book and Candle" at Boston's Plymouth Theatre, attained in-person at the stage door by inveterate collector Howard Davis, who also acquired autographs of playwright John Van Druten on the cover, and Rex Harrison, Lili Palmer and Larry Gates on the title page. In good condition, with all of the signatures just a shade light and very gentle creasing to the cover. A noted vaudevillian and theatrical character actress, Adair was 71 when she was invited to Hollywood to recreate her stage role as Martha Brewster, one of Cary Grant's two murderous, dotty old aunts, in Arsenic and Old Lace (1944). She appeared in just one or two television roles before her death at 79, and her autograph is virtually nonexistent in any format. This is just the third example we've encountered in three decades.
