Rather uncommon vintage signature in fountain pen on a 3x5-inch grey card, acquired in the late 1930s or early 1940s. In good condition, with a few brown flecks embedded into the fiber of the paper itself, and ideal for matting. The youngest daughter of the Yiddish theater stars Jacob P. and Sarah Adler, and sister of character actors Charles, Jay, Julia, and Luther Adler, she made her bones on the Broadway and vaudeville stages, appearing in over 100 stage productions by the age of 14. In her thirties, she traveled to Russia to study with master thespian Konstantin Stanislavski, whose naturalistic acting technique she went on to tirelessly coach and champion in the United States, alongside Lee Strasburg and second husband Harold Clurman. She made a handful of forays into film, billed as Stella Ardler, most memorably in Shadow of the Thin Man in 1941.
