Cat. #00037031122: GWILI ANDRE

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Ultra-rare vintage green fountain pen signature, clipped from the corner of a pale green autograph album page which was acquired in-person in the 1930s, measuring 1 x 1.5 inches. Later affixed to a 4x6-inch leaf by the previous owner. The ink is just a hint light in spots, due to some apparent brushing by water, but the piece is in good condition, overall, and is so fiendishly rare that any collector should be very pleased to acquire it, warts and all. Auctioned by RR Enterprises several years ago, but not accompanied by the original Certificate of Authenticity. Note that the image of the star shown here, alongside the scan of the autograph clip, is not included. Danish-born blonde beauty Gwili Andre had the talent and the looks necessary for the big-time, but somehow, she couldn't get her act together-- chiefly due to alcoholism-- and was mired in B pictures like Secrets of the French Police (1932), Roar of the Dragon (1932) and The Falcon's Brother (1942).  After one attempt too many to revive her stalled career, she committed suicide, alone in her Venice, California apartment:  She gathered together reams of publicity stills and promotional material from her early career, which she proceeded to set alight, allowing herself to be consumed by the flames.
