Cat. #00038603: GEORGE K. ARTHUR

Scarce vintage 3.5 x 5.5-inch sepia-tone portrait, boldly signed in black fountain pen, probably in or around 1921, when he had the leading role in Kipps, which he references below his signature.  In fine condition for its age, with trivial bends to the top right-hand corner and a few small spots along the bottom edge.  It was in 1925 that pint-size British silent comedy star George K. Arthur was so famously paired with lanky Karl Dane in a series of popular screen farces.  His career dwindled with the advent of sound, and he increasingly found work behind the camera, producing short films and snagging and Oscar for The Bespoke Overcoat in 1957.
