Cat. #00038605: JOHNNY ARTHUR

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Ultra-rare vintage inscribed black fountain pen signature-- just the second example we have encountered in over 35 years-- on a 4x6-inch pink autograph album page, acquired in-person by inveterate collectors Rose and Irene Gellar in the late 1940s and decorated with a Players Directory image. In good condition. Silent and early talkie character actor Johnny Arthur played timid, whiny wimp types in score of early comedies, especially for Hal Roach. He is especially remembered for his portrayals of the fathers of Darla and Spanky in 1935 and 1937 installments of the "Our Gang" films, and for his starring role, opposite Lon Chaney, Sr., in 1925's The Monster.
