Cat. #0004142: JIMMY AUBREY

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Highly scarce vintage 1930s postcard portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen for inveterate collector John Virzi in 1961. Some minor dings and edge wear, with faint traces of a previous attempt at signing the car in a different fountain pen in the bottom area, mostly invisible when the piece is viewed head-on. Prolific silent and early talkie comic actor Jimmy Aubrey was unforgettable in his teamings with Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy, and the Three Stooges, typically cast as cads, scoundrels and drunks.  He also had supporting roles in classic films like A Tale of Two Cities (1935), Anything Goes (1936), The Prince and the Pauper (1937), Bulldog Drummond's Revenge (1937), Scandal Street (1938), Mysterious Mr. Moto (1938), Mr. Moto's Last Warning (1939), Charlie Chan in Reno (1939), Mr. Moto Takes a Vacation (1939), The Invisible Man's Revenge (1940), Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1940), East Side Kids (1940), Charlie Chan in Panama (1940), Random Harvest (1942), The Black Raven (1943), Trail of Terror (1943), The Invisible Man's Revenge (1944), The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945), and Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1953).
