Innovative, avant-garde playwright and theater actor Julian Beck made only a small number of forays into cinema, achieving a kind of immortality with his authentically terrifying portrayal of baleful, skeletal, hollow-eyed preacher Henry Kane in Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986). Three years into a battle with stomach cancer during its filming, he died prior to its release in 1986, aged only 60 years.
