Cat. #0004723223: NOAH BEERY, SR.

Excellent vintage 7x9-inch sepia-tone portrait as Colonel von Mertzbach in the Pola Negri silent drama Lily of the Dust (1924), boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen in the period of the film. In fine condition for its age. The father of actor Noah Beery, Jr., and brother of Wallace Beery, noted villain actor Noah Beery, Sr., was unforgettable in a long string of silent and early talkie dramas and westerns, including The Valley of the Giants (1919), The Mark of Zorro (1920), I Am the Law (1922), The Spoilers (1922), Stormswept (1923), Lily of the Dust (1924), The Thundering Herd (1925, 1933), Lord Jim (1925), The Rough Riders (1927), Beau Geste (1927), The Show of Shows (1929), The Four Feathers (1929), Tol'able David (1930), Riders of the Purple Sage (1931), She Done Him Wrong (1933), King of the Damned (1935), Zorro Rides Again (1937), The Bad Man of Brimstone (1937), Adventures of Red Ryder (1940), Salute to the Marines (1943), and Barbary Coast Gent (1945). He also displayed considerable comic talent in a brace of Wheeler and Woolsey flicks, most notably Cockeyed Cavaliers (1934) and Kentucky Kernels (1934).
